Perfect February ๐Ÿฆ‹

F E B R U A R Y.
There is something strangely satisfying about this February. All the days align on the calender. It seems the perfect month to be starting something new. After our welcome induction I am starting to feel a lot clearer on what the course actually involves. I am looking forward to my 1-1 meeting with my course leader next week, hopefully this will help further my understanding. I've decided to write down some of my key notes on here to help me summarise what I took from the meeting.

MODULE 1 keywords/notes:

❤ Establishing what your practice in

❤ Reflection

❤ Communication

❤ Connection

❤ Being able to recognise key people

❤ Influential places

❤ What do I engage with?

❤ Who/what is it influenced by?

❤ Who am I as a practitioner/artist?

There is a HUGE support network around me which includes Unihub being a point of extremely useful resources, my supervisor who is more like a 'critical friend' and us the BA PP community. I love the fact that we are able to be open and honest about our work and feelings on our blogs. It is great to know that I am not alone in this course and I have a brilliant network around me.

It was great to listen to students that have finished module 1 and listen to their tips about the course.

❤ READ THE HANDBOOKS OVER AND OVER AGAIN
❤ Be open and honest with your blogs
❤ Listen to other peoples opinions
❤ Don't be afraid to ask questions/speak up
❤ Trust your instincts

Being a perfectionist and worrier I already know that I am going to find it hard to trust my instincts but I am going to try hard not to self sabotage and go with my initial thoughts and feelings more.

So what now? I am going to read the hand book and annotate any parts I have questions about and try to do my own research into it. If not make a key list of things I really am not understanding to discuss with  Adesola in my one to one. I am going to look at the reading list and make a start on one of the books AND last but not least read all of your blogs and see what your thoughts are at the moment.

Something that really stuck with me from the meeting was that the questions we have won't be answered with a 'typical yes or no answer' they will be answered with a question. I think this will really allow me to explore my thoughts and feelings further and really help me have a deeper understanding on my original thought.

So here is to new starts and new beginnings and a perfect February.

Love Abigail x

    1. Thank you Rhi! It was so nice to hear how you coped with module 1 in the induction meeting. I think the points you made about not being afraid to speak up and ask questions have really stuck with me! It is definitely something I need to learn to do more.

Well done for completing your first module and good luck for module 2! I can't wait to see how you get on and check in with you soon๐Ÿ’•

  2. Loving the Blogs Abi!

Such a helpful post to see how others are approaching the mammoth handbook, that look slightly overwhelming! Its really helped me to make my own checklist that feels like I'm on the right track!

I look forward to reading your future blogs

    1. Thank you - its good to hear we are both on the same page!

I know right?! The handbook seems so scary at the minute, there is so much information to process. But keep reading it over and over seems like the most helpful advice at the minute so thats the POA for me.

Check in soon - Abi x

  3. Hi Abigail,

I'm starting Module 1 this term too and loved reading your blog! I think we're very lucky to have a strong BA PP community and although I was a bit hesitant about blogging to begin I now realise just how valuable it is and that it is also a great form of communication. I personally worry about the whole never getting a straight yes or no answer to my questions but I'm sure that's something I'll come to accept. As performers we're great at taking direction so when exact direction isn't given I tend to feel a bit lost. Thank you for your helpful blog x

    1. Hi Niamh,

Definitely agree that we are lucky to have the BA PP community to support us on our journeys. It is very freeing being able to blog and write about how you truly feel on a topic. It is giving us a chance to discover aspects of our practice that we never would have before. For me as well the chance to discover who I really am and how this fits in with my profession.

You are not alone with feeling lost when not getting a direct answer so hopefully we will be able to overcome this together. As you say as performers we are giving an action on a count and there is only one right way of doing this.

Nice connecting with you - Abi x

    Take care x

    1. Hi Clare,
Thank you for your comment! Love that you don’t really know what happened in module 1! I think I am at that point now and just trying to trust the process and my own thoughts!!
Good luck for the rest of the course, I look forward to following your journey.

  5. Hi Abi,
I'm on Module 1 as well. Love your blog and how you've added notes from the intro zoom - might have to do the same as it's better than a notebook for keeping track.
Looking forward to getting 'stuck in'.

    1. Hi Sally,
It definitely is useful for looking back and reflecting on what has happened so far. Think I will use this technique after every meeting!!
Hope you are finding things okay at the minute, look forward to connecting with you more over the course!
